Without Pressure a Diamond Will Forever
Remain a Piece of Coal

Pressure can come into our lives in many forms. However most often pressure comes in the form of stress. We stress about our finances. We stress about our children. We stress about our job, and about our significant other. Some of us even stress about being stressed. Too often we allow the pressures of living to imprison us. Why? Why do you stress about things? Why do you circum to the pressures of life? When has stressing about something changed the circumstance? It hasn’t and it probably never will change things.

Furthermore how often have we stressed about our relationship with God? Have you ever been stressed because you feel like you do not pray enough or you do serve him as often as you should? For the majority of us, we never stress or even mull over these issues in our lives. So if you aren’t stressing over your relationship with God what are you stressing over?

Pressure is a part of life, so we have to learn to deal with it in a more appropriate manner. Let’s face the facts we rarely stress about anything that is a matter of life and death. Rather than circum to the pressure use it to make your diamond. Additionally if you forever remain a lump of coal you will miss out on the beauty of being a diamond.

Diamonds are considered to be the most beautiful gems on Earth. Diamonds are forever and diamonds are strong. The only things that can cut diamonds are diamonds. Once you become a diamond you will be able to with stand pressure, outlast the circumstances of life, be beautiful, and ordinary stones will no longer be able to hurt you. Strive to become a diamond.

From a lump of coal to a beautiful diamond

1. Stop stressing over things you cannot change.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference

2. Trust God. Our God is a faithful God. Trust him to see you through your difficult situation.

3. Look for an opportunity to grow even while in the mist of the situation. Ask yourself what canI learn from this situation. The devil may have meant it for your demise but God can make it for your uplifting.

Thinking of the loves that came before you

Orange Juice and Lemonade

While sitting at my desk observing the chaos I call a job, I had this thought, “You cannot make orange juice if all you have are lemons.” As soon as I had the thought I realized the magnitude of it all. This is where I am going to head this week. The thought for the week is……

“You cannot make orange juice if all you have are lemons”

First let’s discuss “orange juice”. Orange juice is really good for the human body. It is a great source for Thiamin, Potassium, Vitamin C, Folate, and it is low in Sodium and Cholesterol. Although orange juice does have calories that derive from sugar, overall juice in moderation is good for you. So what is the “orange juice” you are thirsty for in your life? It can be many things. It could be a new relationship, a new job, a new wardrobe, etc. The sky is truly the limit. But here is the trick when attempting to make orange juice, what are you squeezing? Are you squeezing oranges or are you squeezing lemons?

Squeezing lemons is effective if you want lemonade. Do you want lemonade? Yes lemonade will seemingly quench your thirst but it will not add any nutritional value to your life. So basically lemonade is a short lived remedy to a bigger problem. In fact if you think about it lemonade actually creates new problems and only masks the current desire. If you desire orange juice then you are thirsty for something more. You’re thirsty for something that will not only quench your “thirst” but something that will be “healthy” or add value to your life. And I will admit that being thirsty is an uncomfortable feeling. Sometimes the thirst is so unbearable we do things out of desperation to “quench” the thirst but in reality it only masks the symptoms.

I hear you. You want to know what is the point of the orange juice lemonade talk right? Okay I hear you, here’ s the point of the story. If you want to have a healthy relationship you cannot force one with a “lemon” or a mate that is not satisfying all of our needs. You cannot force one out of a significant other with is abusive or inattentive. If he or she is telling you he doesn’t want “orange juice” aka a relationship then stop trying to force one. Yes the lemonade he or she gives seems like it is “quenching” your thirst. But the harsh reality of is this it is only masking the situation. It just won’t work. I’m sorry. You cannot attain a better job if you are not giving your all to your current job. Regardless of how much you despise your current position you cannot abandon your obligations. You cannot have and enjoy the new things you want to buy if you do not have the financial resources. Sure you can max out your credit cards to buy them but how much will you enjoy them when the bill comes. Truth is truth people.

This is what I want you to do over the weekend and the upcoming week, ask yourself, “Am I trying to produce orange juice out of lemons?” Then ask yourself this question, “If I desire orange juice why am I still squeezing lemons?” If you are truly honest with yourself I promise you it will impact your life.

Tiger Woods: Is Drama your middle name?

On November 27, 2009, Eldrick "Tiger" Woods crashed his vehicle outside his home in Florida. In most situations a car crash simply means you have to make a call to 911 as well as a call to your insurance company. However for Tiger Woods, a car crash begin a sequence of unfortunate events. The car crash sparked a eruption that has since led to Tiger Woods loosing endorsements, respect of the general public, and possibly his family.

Tiger's numerous affairs led up to the fight between he and his wife, Elin, and the car crash. As of today there are a reported 11 women who have had a sexual relationship with the professional golfer. In the beginning Tiger remanded silent about the scandal but on December 11, 2009 he issued a statement on his website both admitted the incidents happened as well as apologizing for them. To further pour salt in Tiger's wound Gillette announced that it will drop Tiger's endorsement of their product and Accenture stated it is still evaluating what his role will be in their marketing plan.

Though it seems like Tiger is loosing everything since on 7% of the 100 million he made last year came from playing golf and the rest from endorsements he is not the victim. The true victim in this entire incident is his wife and children. Sam, Charlie, and Elin did not deserve the treatment they have received and will probably carry permenant scars from the incident. Elin is married to a man the entire world knows cheated on her nurmous time with at least 11 different women. Sam and Charlie are facing the possiblity of growing up in a divided household.

Marriage vows are serious and sacred, never to be entered in without deep consideration. With that in mind I say to Tiger and Elin if you can work things out, work them out. Do not let the media influence your actions any further. Divorce is worse than death in some incidents. Please carefully consider all your thoughts and actions from this point forward.

Meeting Dr. Cornel West

On October 29, 2009 I had the pleasure of meeting te great, Dr. Cornel West. Let me first start by saying that men of genius truly stimulate me in ways new shoes cannot compare.

Dr. West spoke candidly on various topics such as President Obama, Spike Lee, and himself. I found myself on the edge of my seat the entire time, hanging on to his every word. Anticipating the next great thing he would say. It was truly a religious experience for me to say the least.

At the end of his speech, Dr. West was conducting a book signing for his memoir, Living and Loving Out Loud. Standing in line I could hardly breathe so anxious to rub elbows with someone so accomplished. Despite his accomplishments, Dr. West is extremely humble and kind. He and I chatted briefly about Albany, Ga and Albany State University. This is a memory I will carry forever. And at the close of our conversation Dr. West agreed to read my book, Silent Tears. His acceptance of my book completely astonished me.

If you have not had an opportunity to hear Dr. West speak you are missing a treat. The man is awesome. Please check out his work.

Thought for the weekend.....Life is about two things...Forgiveness and Love

This weekend I want you to think about this....when was the last time you forgave yourself? Quite often we forgive others but how often do we forgive ourselves? Forgiveness of self is a powerful thing. And to truly love yourself and others it is necessary. Mistakes are made in life...how often do you forgive yourself for those mistakes? I'm sure not as often as you should. Mistakes allow us to learn, so why stay upset with yourself for learning a lesson....pointless if you think about it. This weekend I want you to forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for not following your diet. Forgive yourself for allowing negative people in your life. Forgive yourself for having sex with the wrong person. Forgive yourself for not sticking to your budget. Forgive yourself. It's okay to forgive. It's okay I promise. And remember that no one will ever be able to truly love you if you don't love yourself. Forgiveness is necessary. I love you! Have An Amazing Weekend! And remember everything God made is perfect. It might not be perfect for you but that doesn't change its perfection.
